Shaker Style

This log cabin's kitchen boasts the functionality of a farmhouse cookery with the appeal of simple Shaker style. The island imitates a workbench that offers space for utensils and cookbooks. Its countertop, curly maple with a mineral oil finish, functions as a cutting board.




Black and White Range

Details: Checkered tile makes a big statement, uniting a black countertop and white walls.

Accessories: Contemporary accessories in a country palette enliven basic kitchen appliances.

Display: Copper kettles, old, and new, are set in a niche that alludes to a Colonial hearth.

A little online bargain hunting helped this kitchen's owner find a less-expensive alternative to the pricey tiles she'd seen in a showroom - from the very same company, Waterworks.




Breakfast Nook

Once cramped and inefficient, this kitchen today beams with cottage appeal thanks to a thoughtful collaboration between homeowner and architect. New windows capture plenty of natural light while enhancing the home's classic style. The original archway still frames the now-inviting breakfast nook, which also gained a radiator and built-in storage bench.




Streamlined Space

Clutter is kept to a minimum in the cozy yet streamlined kitchen, where everything is in reach. Glass-fronted cabinets display colorful pottery. And the pot-filler faucet that swings out above the stove is a lifesaver (and arm saver) for someone who cooks and entertains frequently.




Glass-Front Cabinets

The typical base cabinets were replaced throughout the kitchen with glass-fronted drawers reminiscent of 19th-century apothecary cabinets. The practical design makes it easy for guests to find dishes when helping out in the kitchen.
